A story today out of Arkansas about a 12 year old boy who was saving his money for a trip to Yankee Stadium - $1000.00 - who gave it up to save his school which was in danger of closing. As always in situations like these, so called tough businessman, so-called maniac owner George Steinbrenner did the right thing when he found out about, wrote the boy, replaced the money, told the boy that education was more important than baseball and invited him to NY for a personal tour of the Stadium and the field during batting practice. Steinbrenner's quote:
"Steinbrenner said the youngster was absolutely right, and it takes quite a man to give up his personal dream for a higher purpose."
For more on George's customer-centricity see my entry last year on the subject. He's a lot better a person than he's given credit for, despite whatever you see as his eccentricities. I really like him. He's got a heart and can be emotional. He's also overcome the issues of his more youthful days. He's a man facing his later years with actually a measure of decency.
Yeah, so there. I said it
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO ALL OF YOU, NOT EVEN GENDER SPECIFICALLY!!!
