As many of you know, Steve Jobs yesterday announced the new iTouch, the new iPod Nano, Classic and various and sundry other evolutionary mini-products that will enhance Apple's shiny veneer. They are amazing, doing so many right things so frequently when it comes to function and coolness. But the one thing that made iPhone owners
- Sick
- Mad
- Both
- Both Doubled
- Both Googleplexed
was the drop in price by $200 in the iPhone 8GB variety, a mere 10 weeks after it hit the market. That didn't seem to be a good move for anyone given that it was the early adapter Apple Evangelical Church goers that had bought the device and it seemed that Steve Jobs was going to screw the loyal ones to get the mass market.
But, damn, if the next day meaning about two hours ago or so Engadget Mobile reports that next week the details will be released on giving the pre-drop iPhone owners a $100 Apple gift certificate. Not sure how that will play or that it isn't just a rumor, but if true and you don't have to go through major hoops to get the gift certificate, this is sorta brilliant and a way to turn what could be a loyalist-reduction tempest into a "I LUV APPLE EVEN MORE THAN U DO" Fest. Talk about making a seriously smart move so that customers are going to be extremely happy - and they still paid $100 more than the new wave will.
Wow.

excellent product, with lots of wow factor. particularly like the ability to carry photos around in high-res and the access to internet info anywhere there's a hotspot, without paying big bucks for an iphone data plan.

Ya....apple has used the marketing strategy called skimming policy. It is unethical at a stage when apple wants to maximize profits, there is no competition and the company doesn't know the exact demand curve.
