Actually, I have no criteria except I love these commercials. Some are brilliantly funny and cray cray adorbs. Some are beautiful, and soar. One will rip at your heart.
I still think that good advertising – especially TV commercials – are an art form where they are concentrating a brilliant idea into 60 seconds (more or less – as you shall see) – and it represents the company that is doing the advertising incredibly well. I’ll comment a bit here and there as I list these for your viewing pleasure. I think that this year, one set of commercials is approaching the iconic status of “MasterCard – Priceless” and “Intel Inside” but falls just short because it doesn’t have the level of catch phrase (though it has one) or musical ID (though it has one) that these two do. Here we go. There is no particular order really. I love ‘em all.
Happy New Year!!
#1 – Som Sabadell Bank (Beethoven’s 9th Symphony’s Ode to Joy Flash mob – sorta)
Most moving commercial of the year – or that I saw this year (has 29M views)
#2 – T-Mobile/Sprint (James Earl Jones and Malcolm McDowell series “ At Sprint, Everything’s Important”) –
Totes McGotes episode because of the sonorous tones of James Earl Jones saying it.
#3 – AT&T (Beck Bennett, “Its Not Complicated” series w/kids) –
Cutest kid episode – because, well, it’s the cutest one.
#4 - Bud Light Easily the BEST TAGLINE OF THE YEAR ("It's Only Weird if it Doesn't Work") –
Quinoa Episode - my fave of all of these Bud Light ads – and the actor pulls it off perfectly.
#5 – Hope for Paws video – This one was done in 2012, but I saw it in 2013.
Rescue of a blind dog from a trash heap. Please be ready to cry – because if you have a heart, or any organ in fact, you will – tears of joy too by the end.
Also, I gave $100 as soon as the video was over. Be ready to end 2013 with a donation to this amazing group.
Hey Paul,
All great commercials that I have loved as well for their entertainment value. Some other I like include:
Auto: Jean-Claude Van Damme's series for Volvo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cbVFQP4y2U
Beer: Coors Light ice cave series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yj9rGxYFMMk
Beer: Again Claude makes the list, mostly because of this quote; "my nipples were so cold they started talking to me" ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyZtRO7cXgs
Wishing you and all readers the best in 2014!
